Season Announcement
At long last we are ready to announce (most of) our 2024-25 season. We know it’s been a long time coming, but this one promises to be pretty far out of the ordinary, even for Quark.
In the past, we’ve always said we would never do a musical. The lesson here is “never say never,” as we prepare to stage our first musical performance. But of course, we’re doing it the Quark way: Our September show will be the North American premiere of a one-woman operetta, Through the Looking Screen by the English composer Anne Chmelewsky.
Annabel is 27 and her life is a continuous status update. She has used every social medium available to carefully cultivate her profile in order to attract the attention of her dashing colleague, Sebastian. Through the Looking Screen is an affectionate but unflinching operatic portrayal of an increasingly desperate young woman losing touch with the world beyond her PC and smartphone. Annabel’s life is a tragicomic tale of our times.
This will also be the first Quark show directed by a non-founder of the company, as the brilliant Eileen Kuo takes the helm to direct!
Please see the audition announcement we are posting on our Facebook page today!
Our second show will be in February 2025. This one is TBA, as we are still working out a few details.
Finally, in June 2025 we will present the premiere of CHICKEN by Memphis’s own Keegon Schuett, who submitted this marvelous script to our call for submissions last year. This story of midlife sexual experimentation and its unexpected ramifications will give audiences plenty to discuss on the way home!
